Veterinary Surgical Services
The Surgical Services Department at the Adelaide Animal & Emergency Referral Centre caters to the needs of your pet 365 days a year. Our team, led by Dr. John Punke are available 24 hours a day for routine and complex surgeries during the day, and for emergency surgeries after hours.
The surgical department also boasts a team of veterinary nurses who are capable of assisting with a varied list of procedures including spinal and neurosurgery, open chest surgery, surgical oncology, orthopaedics, soft tissue surgery, and other specialised surgical procedures.
Dr. Punke accepts patients on a referral and emergency basis. The usual process for referrals is first to obtain a referral letter from your regular veterinarian, who will email or fax this to us at AAERC.
Your veterinarian will ask you to give us a phone call during business hours to make an appointment for a consultation to see Dr. Punke, who will spend time with you to discuss an ideal treatment plan for your pet’s needs. The associated costs and procedures will also be discussed with you.
Some procedures or tests may be able to be performed that day, while others may require another appointment at a later time.
Our specialist team are equipped with the gold standard technology at their disposal, including dual positive-pressure surgical theatres, automated laboratory equipment, digital x-ray, advanced anaesthesia, mechanical ventilation, arthroscopy, laparoscopy, CT imaging, fluoroscopy, ultrasound, endoscopy, bronchoscopy, ECG and advanced diagnostic and monitoring equipment, so you may rest assured that your pet is receiving the very best care possible.
